Coming at y’all with an off-the-cuff email on an off-day with some exciting news. An early review for my upcoming Weird Dark Fantasy novel, SOIL, has just gone live on Black Gate Magazine.
Not only did Dark Muse News columnist S.E. Lindberg discuss what he enjoyed about the book, but he provides an entire guide to my published fiction for those wanting to dive deeper and an in depth analysis of SOIL’s themes.
Lindberg writes: Sword and Sorcery fans will enjoy the elements of melee action, direct encounters with strange gods, and exploration of mystic temples. The world and culture are fleshed out, and super-infused with intense child-bearing motifs … the whole setting is brewing with issues of legacy and parenthood.
SOIL is coming to BackerKit on October 29th as The Arcanist’s last major project of 2026. Though the book is finished and I could theoretically publish it on KDP tomorrow… working on Mordschlag’s interior design has given me the gumption to fill this book with art.
So that’s what crowdfunding will unlock. Dope art of Vikings, Old Gods… and Wolves.
